Wichita, KS Icy Road Crashes – 2/6/2019

For the second day in a row, significant icing overnight lead to numerous crashes across the Wichita Metro area, this time focused on the northeast parts of the city where nearly a dozen crashes occurred on a three mile stretch of K-96 between Woodlawn and Webb Roads. Several minor injuries were reported in the wrecks, including a driver who slid off the road and into a water-filled ditch.

Reports vary from a slight glaze to 0.15-inches of ice fell starting at roughly 3am and lasting through about 9am before a lull in the precip began mid-morning. Temperatures are expected to remain well below freezing through the day into tonight when a third round of freezing rain is expected. This is part of a much larger storm system expected to bring ice and snow to much of the Midwest.
