5/16/2015 Southwest KS Shelf Cloud

Southwest Kansas took on a linear feature the afternoon of Saturday, May 16, 2015. The CU field that formed in western Kansas today looked to have promise and ended up being more of a squall line. The first storm that was tackled was the structure of a shelf cloud that was moving east towards Garden City, Kansas.  This storm was shot south looking north.

The second storm that we approached moved into Kansas from the Guymon, Oklahoma area. This had a history of severe thunderstorm warnings. As we were driving east to get ahead of it the storm was moving to fast so we pulled over and sat through the high wind and heavy rain, which took on boarderline white out conditions.
